It's very obvious that some funko pop action figures like Marvel and Star Wars usually outsell every other brand that is in the market. I wonder what could be the reason why that happens? Maybe it's because of how popular Marvels and Star Wars franchise have been for decades?

Marvel and Star Wars are very popular brands. This is why they are doing very well in their movies and TV show's department.

It's the kind of promotion and advertising the company pushes into those products is what makes their brand to sell more than other funko pop brands.

Popularity and advertisement of those are what makes them sell better. It's like how Avengers :Doomsday is trending now, selling Funko Pop of Dr Doom is booming.

Great thread. Beyond raw popularity and ad spend, there are a few structural reasons Marvel and Star Wars consistently move more units:
1. Multi-generational fandom — both franchises have been building audiences for 40+ years, so parents pass the hobby down to their kids. That's a self-renewing buyer base most newer lines simply don't have.
2. Depth of the character library — a single license can support hundreds of Pops across decades of movies, shows, comics and games. Collectors can chase a full wave, a single character's variants, or a niche side character, which keeps demand alive long after a movie leaves theaters.
3. Release cadence — Marvel and Star Wars have near-constant new content (films, streaming series, animated shows), and Funko ties a new wave to almost every one. That keeps the lines visible in stores and online all year round.
4. Secondary market liquidity — because so many people collect them, it's easier to resell or trade later. That lowers the perceived risk of buying, which actually drives more purchasing.
None of this happens by accident — it's the combination of a huge catalog, steady content, and a collector base that can pass the hobby on. What other licenses do you think have the same long-term setup?
