Funko has been quietly expanding its POP! Mystery line over the past few weeks, and the pace has picked up noticeably heading into Halloween. For anyone unfamiliar, this is Funko's blind-box format: figures ship sealed and you don't know exactly which one from the series you're getting until you open it. The line now covers One Piece, exclusive colorways of Warner Bros horror icons timed for the spooky season, and a plant-themed Flora series — and the Flora run apparently contains a 1-of-1 global chase hidden somewhere, which I don't recall Funko doing before.
What makes this interesting is how it differs from the traditional chase model. Regular chases are ratio-based variants of a known figure, while the mystery line leans into the anime blind-box approach where the lineup is only partially revealed up front. It's also landing during an already packed October: NYCC exclusives, the translucent Skeletor and Stitch in Bath limited editions on the Funko shop calendar, and the usual monthly waves on top.
I can see both sides of this format. Mystery boxes create genuinely fun unboxing moments and give casual buyers a lottery-style thrill, but they make it harder to budget for the specific character you actually want — you can end up with duplicates instead. Curious where this forum stands: does anyone here actively enjoy the blind-box gamble, or do most of you stick to hunting specific known Pops? Has anyone pulled something good from the POP! Mystery lines yet?
